Adaptive clothing
Adaptive clothing is specially designed apparel with features such as Velcro, magnetic closures, side openings, zippers, or stretch materials. This helps injured military personnel recovering from amputations, fractures, scars, limited mobility, or prosthetics.
The main advantages are:
- Greater independence in dressing and undressing. Normal clothing is often difficult to put on with injuries, prosthetics, casts, or braces. Adaptable clothing with side zippers, magnets, or Velcro makes this easier, often without help. This reduces dependence on caregivers, which speeds up recovery and reduces frustration.
- More comfort and less pain/irritation. Special fits avoid pressure on wounds, scars, stumps, or prostheses. Stretch materials and seamless designs reduce friction. Wide openings allow quick access for medical personnel (e.g., for wound care) without having to remove clothing.
- Faster and better recovery. Easier on and off encourages more movement and daily activities, which promotes rehabilitation. Less risk of new injuries or infections from rough pulling on clothing.
- Psychological benefits and maintaining dignity. Injured soldiers can wear “normal” clothing instead of hospital gowns. This increases self-confidence, self-image, and sense of normalcy.
- Practical for prosthetics and assistive devices. Special designs (e.g., side openings in trousers) fit better over prosthetics or wheelchairs, without pinching or shifting.
Messages for the wounded Marines
During the fundraising event, a page was set up where NAFO fellas could leave a message for the marines staying in hospitals or rehabilitation centers to recover from their injuries.
This page will remain open so that anyone who wishes can still add a message. Therefore, there is no end date, and there is only one condition for a message to be posted: support for the target group.
Negative or unrelated messages will not be posted. Submitted messages are moderated, usually within one to a few hours, depending on the time zone.
